In response to National People's Congress representative Li Xiaoli's suggestion to "include the cost of dental implant materials in medical insurance," the National Medical Insurance Administration made it clear that it would promptly include qualified consumables and diagnostic and treatment items in medical insurance in accordance with the spirit of the "Reform Plan for the Management of High-Value Medical Consumables." The cost of dental implants in my country remains high. Information shows that the price of a dental implant ranges from 6,000 yuan to 20,000 yuan. With the national centralized procurement of heart stents, artificial joints and other consumables, the price reduction effect has been obvious, and the call for including dental implants in medical insurance is getting louder and louder.
In August this year, a document titled "Proposal to Further Clarify Medical Insurance Account Payment for Dental Implant Projects over the Years (Draft for Comments)" was leaked from the Zhejiang Ningbo Medical Insurance Bureau. The "Plan" states that Ningbo will establish a medical insurance reimbursement directory for dental implant brands in the future. Among them, domestic brands cost 3,000 yuan each and imported brands cost 3,500 yuan each.
This is regarded as the latest move by the competent authorities to regulate the price of dental implants, and media such as China News Weekly even called out "centralized purchasing of dental implants".
This time, the National Medical Insurance Administration did not explicitly launch centralized purchasing of dental implants. According to the national centralized purchasing plan, only drugs and consumables covered by medical insurance are eligible to be included in centralized purchasing. The Medical Insurance Bureau stated that currently in all provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities, glasses, dentures, prosthetic eyes and other appliances are not included in the scope of basic medical insurance payment.
